    Finely crafted silver lime box from Northern Burma. Used as an accessory in the habit of betel nut chewing, a mild narcotic common in Southeast Asia. Lime is used to cut the hot taste of each quid. The Karens are a Chinese mountain tribe that was forced to migrate to Burma early in the 1900's and have suffered greatly since at the hands of their more modern neighbors. Silver objects, boxes and jewelry are the measure of a Karen's wealth. From the late 19th or early 20th century.
