    Description

Orrin, NORTH DAKOTA - "Mary Center of America" Shrine - 1969 - ROADSIDE: Orrin is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Pierce County, North Dakota, United States. Its population was 22 as of the 2010 census. As noted on the card, two miles north of Orrin is the geographical center of North America, "as determined in 1928 by a U.S. Geodetic Survey." In this place two twin brothers constructed twin shrines to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The reverse of the card contains a pre-printed request from one of the brothers for a return scenic postcard "from your area", which was to be placed a collection called Scenic America to "be exhibited at the heartland of Continental N. America." This Roadside Photochromatic postcard, mailed in 1969, is in good condition.
