Description
This Hand Carved beautiful round burnished three-cavity is created by the Ifugao people of Ifugao Province,Central Island of Luzon, Philippines. This bowl and others like it would have played an important part in everyday Ifugao life. Most ordinary folk ate their rice out of a common bowl or dished out into small, plain personal bowls, but men of high status among the Ifugao eat from carved wooden bowls which incorporate a rim wide enough to allow two smaller bowls for spices and relishes at the side. The bowls are usually round and carved out of a cross section of a tree trunk called Yemane (Gmelina) wood. The dark patina was created from years of use and polishing. These bowls were used, among other things, in rituals to ask for blessings on pending activities, such as a harvest or hunt. This bowl can be displayed or used in your homes, but either way they are beautiful in craftsmanship from the Ifugao People of the Philippines.13" long
