    Title:
Ayutthaya Brown Glazed Pottery Vase. 16/17th Century.
Rare Earthenware Pottery, Singburi Province, North Central Thailand. Museum Quality!
    Description:
An amazing and extremely rare Ayutthaya brown-glazed pottery vase of hand-gathered red clay, delicately modeled with a flared trumpet-shaped mouth, long neck making a sharp angle to broad shoulders, bulbous body, supported by a tappered footrim, decorated in relief carved floral designs resting at the shoulders, with repeated vertical incised lines, and bands of impressed geometric patterns at the neck, shoulders, and footrim. The vessel is colored in a rich brown glaze, along with the surface having lightly speckled ash residue that penetrated the glaze from being fired in a low temperature kiln.
Thickly potted, high quality craftsmanship, handcrafted with irregularities, flaws, inclusions, and pitting throughout the vase, and is a normal part of the pottery's appearance and its patina, making it one of the finest surviving pieces in Ayutthaya pottery.
