    Description

    Antique woman’s comb/hair ornament from the Atoni or Belu People of East Timor (formerly a part of Indonesia)
    Copper, bone and wood
    6 inches wide X 3.25 inches tall X 3/5 deep. 90 grams.
    Circa 19th century.
    This comb was used for a woman's adornment during religious ceremonies. Worn at the crown of the head by tucking into the hair, it is made of copper. Gold would have covered the metal surface. Three dimensional floret designs are applied to the copper sheath that covers the bone comb. It was purchased in Indonesia in 97.
