Offered from the estate of
former State Department family.
Lived abroad from 1953 – 1967:
in Afghanistan from 1953 to 1964
Iran for about a year, 1964-5
He went to Vietnam and the rest of the
family lived in Thailand for about a year
and a half, 1965-67. Post retirement travel
included: Indonesia, Bangladesh, Philippines,
Israel, several European countries, Turkey,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and
in the 90s and early 00s to Burkina Faso
and Peru. Her grandmother was from Peru,
as the items show. Fascinating lives
found in these special objects.
This is a beautiful sculpture, which I
believe is made of Macassar Ebony.
The grain of the wood is visible on
the front of the sculpture, the back
side is closer to black. The headpiece
is spectacular, featuring an ornately
carved bird. I have lightened some
of the photos to show the detail
better.  Ship weight is 2.5 pounds.
