Description

18/19th century, Sri Lankan, Sinhalese or Ceylonese Piha kaetta dagger, single edged 14cm blade, inlaid either side and along the top rib of the blade with foliate embossed silver, the blade mounted in a silver mount with foliate and scrolls, foliate engraved 2 piece wooden grips secured with 3 silver pins, the pommel of embossed silver and the blade tang is also overlaid with silver, the dagger overall 23cm. Contained in the original wooden sheath, the bottom of which has since been covered in sewn on leather, the top half of the sheath wrapped with silver sheet and filigree work, overall 27cm.
